Threat Protection Factor Guide

What is the Threat Protection Factor?

The Threat Protection Factor or TPF is part of what makes Boardish unique. It’s our way of measuring the connection between the threat and solution and where the real quantification happens.

The TPF is where we quantify how effective a solution is against a particular threat.

And we do this in two separate environments, on-prem and in the cloud because what works on-prem doesn’t necessarily work in the cloud or vice versa.

To start you’ll need to allocate at least one solution to each threat that you want to include. The solutions already available in Boardish will populate with our own default percentages but these may not necessarily suit your organisation or environment so you can tweak these and adjust based on your own experience or expertise.

Remember you’re adding a percentage figure of how effective the solution is at mitigating the threat. For example, to mitigate our hospitality business against ransomware we could deploy Acronis anti-ransomware. As it’s mainly a solution for on-prem rather than in the cloud, it’s effectiveness is 90% on-prem but 50% in the cloud.

Multiple Solutions For A Single Threat

You can also set up multiple solutions to the same threat by simply clicking on the blue plus button and selecting from the drop-down menu.

As you can see here we’ve also included Microsoft Azure which works effectively in both environments based on our experience. Note that it’s unlikely you’ll get a solution that is 100% effective against mitigating risks as there is always some level of risk and Boardish aims to help you capture the worst case possible.

If you’re still unsure what to add, use 50% as a good benchmark to use instead. When you’re done, click save and next.

Make sure to assign at least one solution to each of the threats you highlighted in the threats section!

Don’t forget to click save and next before you progress to the next section. If you have any questions or concerns about filling in the company information section, feel free to ask a question in our online Facebook community or drop us an email. If you get stuck on any of the TPF sections or you aren’t sure what percentages to put, add a question in our Facebook community or contact us via email and we can help.

Threat Protection Factor Guide FAQ

Boardish isn’t just designed for you to use for IT budgeting but helps IT professionals understand the type of answers they need for a full proposal and analysis. Not having all the answers is okay, it can help you start a conversation in your own organisation. You can also:

  • Get in contact with us either directly or via the Facebook community, we’re happy to go over anything with you so you have more of an insight into your answers.
  • You can speak directly with your team and other senior staff to find out the answers yourself.
  • You can use Boardish without some of the answers. But note that you won’t be getting the full benefit of Boardish and your results won’t be as accurate.

Boardish is currently still in Beta, so as with any new software, we’re doing our best to work out the kinks. If you discover a bug or you’re struggling to use Boardish. Please contact us directly or via the Facebook community so we can help you out.

Our unique algorithm quantifies the percentage effectiveness of the solutions you provide to determine how much financial risk is mitigated, and how much is left when you get to your dashboard.

For example, in the TPF section if you allocated a solution to have 100% effectiveness over a certain threat you would see you have no ‘exposure’ (or financial risk) left in your dashboard for that threat.

If you’re unsure 50% is a good starting point to use. You’re always welcome to add a question in the support forum or drop us an email to help.
